Bareboat-charter i New Caledonia

A bareboat charter is a boat rental without a captain or crew. You are responsible for operating the boat, navigation, safety, docking, fuel management, and following local boating rules. Bareboat charters are suitable for experienced boaters with the correct license and confidence.

In many destinations, you need a valid boating license or sailing qualification to book a bareboat charter. Requirements depend on the country, boat type, engine power, sailing area, and charter company. Some operators may also ask for proof of previous boating experience.

A bareboat charter means you operate the boat yourself. A skippered charter includes a professional captain who handles navigation, docking, safety, and local route planning. If you are unsure about local waters or do not have the right license, a skippered boat charter is the safer option.

Yes, some destinations offer bareboat charters for a few hours, half day, full day, or multiple days. Smaller motorboats and RIBs are commonly available for day bareboat rental, while sailing yachts and catamarans are often booked for weekly charters.

A bareboat charter usually includes the boat, required safety equipment, basic navigation equipment, and sometimes a dinghy or standard onboard gear. Fuel, marina fees, final cleaning, insurance excess, and security deposit may be charged separately.

Yes, most bareboat charters require a refundable security deposit before departure. The deposit covers potential damage, lost equipment, fuel differences, or insurance excess. The amount depends on the boat value, charter duration, and operator conditions.

Bareboat charters are generally not recommended for beginners unless the boat is very small, local rules allow it, and the cruising area is simple and protected. For most guests, a skippered boat charter is better if they lack experience with docking, navigation, wind, currents, anchoring, or local regulations.

If damage occurs during a bareboat charter, the cost may be deducted from the security deposit or handled through the boat's insurance, depending on the charter agreement. It is important to inspect the boat carefully before departure and report any existing damage.

Yes, many bareboat charter boats can also be booked with a skipper. This is a good option if you like the boat but prefer not to handle navigation or docking yourself. In some cases, a skipper can be added for one day, several days, or the full charter period.

Fuel is often not included in bareboat charters. The boat is usually provided with fuel and must be returned with the same fuel level, or the used fuel is charged after the charter. Always confirm the fuel policy before booking.
